The Lancet Editor-in-Chief Richard Horton Visits PKUHSC

On November 21, 2023, Dr. Richard Horton, the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The Lancet , visited Peking University Health Science Center, accompanied by Wang Hui, Asia Senior Executive Editor. Qiao Jie, Executive Vice President of PKU and President of PKUHSC, met with them.

During the visit, Qiao Jie accompanied Dr. Richard Horton to visit the National Institute of Health Data Science and the State Key Laboratory of Natural and Biomimetic Drugs at Peking University. Later, Richard Horton toured the PKU Medical Library with great interest.

After the tour, Richard Horton made a speech titled “After the Deluge: Prospects for Survival” in Room 209, Yifu Building. Richard Horton spoke about climate change, world peace, prosperity and development, population issues, global cooperation and other important topics closely related to human beings around the world, pointing out that the future of human beings was in our own hands, and medical groups played an extremely important role in it—medicine shortened the distance between people, made the connection between countries closer, and allowed us to create hope in times of crisis. After the speech, Richard Horton and Wang Hui had an active interaction with teachers and students on site. About 300 teachers and students listened to the speech on the spot, with about thirty thousand views of the live stream.

Afterwards, Qiao Jie awarded Richard Horton the appointment of honorary professor of PKUHSC. Qiao Jie said that she looked forward to more leading figures and organizations like Dr. Horton and The Lancet to strengthen cooperation with PKU Medicine and work together to promote the health and well-being of the people of the world.
