Why PKUHSC

As the most prestigious comprehensive medical institution in China, Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC) developed out of National Medical School of Peking, the first national school of western medicine established by the Chinese government through its own efforts. Since its inception in 1912, PKUHSC has cultivated a large number of high-level medical and health talents for the country, and has made outstanding contributions to improving the health of the Chinese people.

PKUHSC has five on-campus academic schools: School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, and School of Health Humanities. PKUHSC now has an enrollment of 4074 undergraduate students, 7022 postgraduate students.

At present, PKUHSC has 6 direct affiliated hospitals: Peking University First Hospital, Peking University People’s Hospital, Peking University Third Hospital, Peking University Hospital of Stomatology, Peking University Sixth Hospital (Institute of Mental Health), Peking University Cancer Hospital. PKUHSC also has 4 collaborative hospitals and 11 teaching hospitals.

Since its merging with PKU in 2000, PKUHSC has been devoted to pursuing deeper integration between the two campuses. Now it endeavors to break the campus fence by implementing the concept of “Peking University Medicine”, and thus contributes to the building of a greater PKU by encouraging resource consolidation and sharing, and fostering transdisciplinary collaboration, and co-creation between medicine and disciplines like engineering, natural sciences and social sciences.

At present, PKUHSC has enrolled 359 international students. Our admissions reach across Asia, the Americas, Europe, and Africa, covering more than 40 countries and regions. This growing diversity in both geographic and academic background helps lay a strong foundation for cultural exchange in medicine and for future international cooperation in healthcare.

PKUHSC has established a comprehensive management system for international students that covers all stages of training, including Preparatory Programs, Undergraduate Programs, Non-degree Programs, and Graduate Programs. It offers a 6-year Clinical Medicine Program and has resumed enrollment for the 5-year Dentistry Program (both taught in Chinese). We strictly implement the Chinese Government Scholarship policies administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), further expanding our reach and appeal to outstanding students worldwide.
