At 10 p.m. Beijing time on November 5, 2023, the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM), the world’s top international competition for college students, came to an end in Paris, France. As the highest level and most influential international academic competition in the field of synthetic biology, this year is the 20th anniversary of the iGEM competition. More than 400 teams from 66 countries with over 75,000 participants competed. The final was held at the Paris Expo-Porte de Versailles, France. Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences participated in the competition for the first time and won the gold medal.

　　The 2023 project goal of PKUSPS iGEM team was to develop new oncolytic viruses based on influenza virus. The project conducted in-depth research into the surface protein of influenza virus and modified the influenza virus, hoping to boost influenza virus to target tumor tissues by changing the display state of virus surface protein. The team was composed of 10 students from PKUSPS, PKU School of Basic Medical Sciences and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
