PKU Hosts International Symposium on Quality Primary Health Care Development

  

  The International Symposium on Quality Primary Health Care Development organized by Peking University School of Public Health and Institute of Global Health under the support of the National Health Commission and the China Office of the World Health Organization was held December 4-5 in Beijing. The symposium, which was themed “Building quality primary care in a new era to achieve health for all”, attracted over 200 participants from international organizations as well as health authorities and academic institutions of China (Hong Kong and Macau included), Spain, New Zealand, South Korea and Mongolia.

  

  The opening ceremony featured remarks by Vice Chairman Jiang Zuojun of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Vice Minister Lei Haichao of the National Health Commission, President Qiao Jie of Peking University Health Science Center, and Acting Regional Director Zsuzsanna Jakab of the WHO Western Pacific region.

  Prof. Ren Minghui, head of the Peking University Institute of Global Health, reviewed the drafting and content of Beijing Initiative on Quality Primary Health Care Development. The launch of the initiative was observed by all the keynote speakers at the opening ceremony as well as WHO Assistant Director-General Bruce Aylward, NHC Director-General Fu Wei of Primary Health, WHO Representative to China Martin Taylor, and Dean Zhan Siyan of PKU School of Public Health.
