On February 23^rd, the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplantation Research (CIBMTR) presented Professor Huang Xiaojun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Institute of Hematology at Peking University, with Distinguished Service Award for his establishment of haploidentical transplantation known as Beijing Protocol and his outstanding contribution to the international hematology.

　　The 2024 Tandem Meetings were held on February 21-24 in San Antonio, Texas, the United States. Michael Verneris, chair of the Advisory Committee of the CIBMTR, told the meeting that the treatment established by Huang Xiaojun increased the 3-year survival rate from approximately 20 percent to about 70 percent in haploidentical transplantation for leukemia patients. Techniques based on the Beijing Protocol have been extended to countries such as South Korea, Italy and France. The Beijing Protocol is currently the most widely used haplo-HSCT system with the best curative effect around the world.

　　Verneris reported that Huang Xiaojun optimized and standardized the general key technologies of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), established a new prevention-rescue scheme for leukemia recurrence, wrote and compiled guidelines and promoted general technologies, which has greatly promoted the rapid development of HSCT in China. In addition, he established international training centers and demonstration teaching bases, trained multinational transplant physicians, and strengthened exchanges and cooperation with the international hematology community.

　　Huang Xiaojun said that the award was not only an affirmation of his team and himself, but also an incentive for the rapid development of HSCT in China. He will try to make greater contributions to promote the development of hematology in China and the cooperation between China and the world in the future.
