The 2026 summer camp that hosts students from Harvard for a tour around China was launched August 19 at Peking University. This year’s event was co-hosted by the China Center for International People-to-People Exchange of the Ministry of Education and Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC).

The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Qiao Jie, who is president of the PKUHSC and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. She extended a sincere welcome to the students, and praised the long-term in-depth collaboration between the PKUHSC and Harvard—among other top universities—in medical education, care and research. She expressed the expectation that students from both countries would take this exchange as a bond to gain growth and friendship through mutual learning.

In his address, Prof. Gao Song, president of Peking University and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, encouraged young students from both sides to embody benevolence and medical excellence, to engage in dialogue with harmony in diversity, and to advance people-to-people bonds, writing a new chapter of China-US friendship.

The opening ceremony saw the presence of Mr. Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education and member of the ministry’s party leadership group.

The summer camp focused on medical and health care, with itineraries covering Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hainan, and would bring the students to more than 20 leading institutions in the field.
