PKUTH Hosts Academic Exchange on Central Asian Orthopedic Surgery and Intelligent Rehabilitation
In the context of building a health community under the Belt and Road Initiative, the “Technical Training Program for Developing Countries,” organized by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and initiated by Peking University, was held at Peking University Third Hospital (PKUTH) and Peking University First Hospital.
From April 20 to 21, 2026, a delegation of experts and scholars in the field of orthopedics from 15 medical institutions and medical schools in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan visited the main campus and Chongli campus of PKUTH to engage in international academic exchanges on orthopedic surgery and smart rehabilitation. The delegation was led by Dzhumabekov Sabyrbek Artisbekovich, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and Director of the National Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics.

On the morning of April 21, PKUTH donated the “Shukangshi” smart rehabilitation device to Kyrgyzstan. “Shukangshi” is a key achievement of the “Technology for the Winter Olympics” initiative. The project integrates cutting-edge technologies such as solid-state LiDAR, 3D vision, and AI motion recognition to create a smart rehabilitation system that combines precise assessment, personalized treatment plans, AI-driven training, and remote management. Leveraging the continuous support of the hospital’s innovation and commercialization ecosystem, the project team completed the technology transformation with Beijing Yiyue Technology Co., Ltd. in 2023 and moved into the Beijing Industrial Development Research Institute (PKUTH) for incubation in 2024. They were granted a Class II medical device registration certificate by the state in 2025. The system has now been deployed in 125 medical institutions across the country.

Following the donation ceremony, representatives from all parties engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including talent development, joint research, telemedicine consultations, and the development of rehabilitation systems. All parties agreed to use this donation as an opportunity to further expand cooperation in fields such as orthopedics, sports medicine, and rehabilitation medicine, and to jointly advance the development of a “Belt and Road” health community.
