IAEA officials visit Peking University Cancer Hospital
On May 20, Jane Gerardo-Abaya, Director of Asia - Pacific Region of the Technical Cooperation Division of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde, Project Management Officer, visited Beijing Cancer Hospital. They were accompanied by Xu Haoran, Project Officer of China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), and had cordial and friendly exchanges on various topics including medical physics education, training and international cooperation with the physicists and doctors in the Radiotherapy Department.
As the main channel of cooperation with IAEA, Beijing Cancer Hospital, on the recommendation of CAEA, has hosted and participated in a number of Asia-Pacific nuclear cooperation projects, mainly involving radiotherapy and nuclear medicine. Project representatives introduced to the guests the background, significance, activities, experiences and achievements of three projects, EVT1703356 (Conference on Safety Culture and Technology in Medical Radiation), RAS6087 (Enhancing Medical Physics Services in Standard-setting, Education and Training through Regional Cooperation), and RAS6085 (Enhancing the Use of Stereotactic Radiotherapy to Treat Common Tumor Diseases in RCA Area). The guests showed great interest and discussed the possibility of further expanding and deepening cooperation on the basis of the existing projects.
The guests also paid a visit to the Radiotherapy Department afterwards.
