On October 17, 2025, the signing ceremony of the Joint Laboratory of the MT Institute (Mourou-Tajima Institute) and the exchange event of the International Advanced Laser Alliance were held at the New-Quality Productivity Creation Center of Huairou Science City. The MT Institute was co-founded by Gérard Albert Mourou, Nobel laureate in Physics and inventor of femtosecond lasers, and Professor Toshiki Tajima, a renowned physicist.

The Joint Laboratory of the MT Institute is composed of 11 institutions and enterprises, including Peking University Third Hospital (PKUTH), Han's Laser, CASTECH, and Guangzhou Industry Investment Holding Group. The joint laboratory and the leading unit of the alliance have signed a co-construction agreement and will carry out cooperation focusing on core areas such as high-power laser devices, laser medical equipment, and industrial laser applications.

PKUTH was the only medical institution in this signing ceremony. Fu Wei, President of PKUTH and Director of its Oncology Center, signed the agreement. Fu Wei said, “The ‘Femtosecond Laser and FLASH Radiotherapy Laboratory’, co-established by PKUTH and the MT Institute, will focus on the research and development of laser proton therapy devices for precise tumor treatment. This device is expected to be put into clinical tumor treatment in the future, benefiting millions of cancer patients.”
