The Medical Team of PKU People’s Hospital “International Brightness Journey” Returns Triumphantly
On October 16, 2025, the Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH) Health Express “International Brightness Journey” medical team triumphantly returned after successfully completing its medical aid mission in Uzbekistan. During this Uzbekistan sight-restoring mission, the team performed a total of 318 surgeries, exceeding the original mission objectives.

PKUPH Health Express “International Brightness Journey” medical team departed in two batches during the National Day holiday to travel to Central Asia. This marked their fourth medical aid mission to Uzbekistan, where they once again kindled hope and spread warmth on the fertile ground of Sino-Uzbek friendship.

On October 3 &4, Bao Yongzhen and Hou Xianru represented Chinese scholars at the Uzbekistan International Ophthalmology Congress. Bao Yongzhen delivered a speech titled “The Issue of Multifocal IOL Implantation in Children.” Hou Xianru made a speech titled “Management of Posterior Capsule Rupture During Cataract Phacoemulsification Surgery.”
This “International Brightness Journey” is a vivid embodiment of implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech delivered at the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus” meeting held in Tianjin on September 1, 2025. At the meeting, China pledged to perform 5,000 cataract surgeries for SCO member states over the next five years. The Urgench mission marks the first fulfillment of this commitment. Chinese doctors fulfill this pledge with compassion and skill, embodying the responsibility of healers and the spirit of a great nation. The “Health Silk Road” is emerging as the most tender footnote along the Belt and Road.
