PKUTH Orthopaedic Team Participates in the Global Spine Congress

From May 28 to 31, 2025, the Global Spine Congress (GSC), hosted by AO Spine, was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

As one of the most influential international academic conferences in the field of spinal surgery, the GSC attracted over 2,000 experts and scholars in the field of spinal surgery from more than 80 countries and regions worldwide. Professor Li Weishi, Chairman of AO Spine China and Director of the Department of Orthopaedics at Peking University Third Hospital (PKUTH), led a delegation to attend the conference and showcased a number of research achievements of his team at the meeting.

PKUTH Department of Orthopaedics was invited to present 9 research achievements at the conference. Professor Li Weishi was invited to deliver a keynote speech entitled “AI Technology Empowering the Laminectomy Surgical Robot System”, in which he elaborated on the world’s first orthopaedic surgical robot for laminectomy independently developed by his team with complete independent intellectual property rights. Many experts showed strong interest in this innovative achievement, actively interacted with Li Weishi, and conducted in-depth discussions on the clinical application prospects and technical details of the robot system.

Three physicians from PKUTH Department of Orthopaedics, namely Li Junyu, Shang Zesen, and Lu Yilin, delivered special reports respectively, with titles including “Etiological Study on Abnormal Paraspinal Muscle Dystropin Protein and Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis”, “CT Value-Guided Selection Strategy for Upper Instrumented Vertebra in Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fracture with Kyphosis”, and “Clinical Study on 3D-Printed Laminoplasty for the Treatment of Ankylosing Spondylitis with Spinal Kyphosis”. These reports demonstrated the professional qualities and academic excellence of the orthopaedic team of PKUTH.

At this GSC conference, in addition to the team from PKUTH, more than 50 research achievements from over ten hospitals in China were also selected for presentations, which fully demonstrates the profound research strength and excellent clinical level of China in the field of spinal surgery.
