First Batch of Trainees from PKUTH-Mauritius Medical Cooperation Program Complete their Studies

Recently, the first batch of 4 trainees from the “Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Training Program between Peking University Third Hospital (PKUTH) and Victoria Hospital, Mauritius”—3 doctors and 1 nurse from Victoria Hospital—successfully completed the program and returned to their home country. This program is not only a concrete action by PKU Medicine to actively implement the important initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping at the 73rd World Health Assembly, but also a significant milestone in the high-quality development of China-Africa medical and health cooperation.

The trainees received as planned the systematic and professional clinical training at PKUTH: Dr. Dave Mangar, Dr. Gopaul Roodrajeetsing, and Nurse Rajiv Luchmineea completed specialized advanced training in the Department of Interventional Vascular Surgery for six months and two months respectively; Dr. Mangroo Ateelesh undertook comprehensive studies in the Department of Radiology and the Department of Ultrasound Medicine for half a year.

From the training program design to daily life support, the International Affairs Team of PKUTH coordinated and managed the program with meticulous attention to detail during its implementation, ensuring its smooth progress. Every link of the program reflects the Hospital’s high emphasis on deepening China-Africa medical cooperation and its humanistic care.

This training program is a vivid reflection of the Belt and Road Initiative taking root in the field of medical and health care, and even more an innovative practice in building a China-Africa Community of Health for All. PKUTH has imparted advanced medical technologies, cultivated local medical backbones in Mauritius, and helped the country establish an independent and sustainable interventional medicine system.
