Academician Zhuang Hui Wins “World Outstanding Chinese Doctor Fok Ying Tung Award”

On August 25, 2025, the 8th World Outstanding Chinese DoctorFok Ying Tung Award was announced. Zhuang Hui, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Peking University, was selected as the recipient of the Award.

The award was established by the World Association of Chinese Doctors and named after Mr. Fok Ying Tung, an outstanding leader of the world’s Chinese community. It is the only highest wards for Chinese doctors worldwide.

Zhuang Hui

Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a renowned expert in epidemiology and hepatology. He has held positions such as the dean of PKU School of Public Health and the director of the Department of Microbiology, PKU School of Basic Medical Sciences. He has been dedicated to the epidemiological and etiological research of viral hepatitis, pioneering the research on hepatitis E in China and presiding over the formulation of the first “Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B” and “Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C” in China.

In 2020, the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes named the newly discovered strain of Mumia as Mumia zhuanghui. In 2024, he won the Okuda-Omata Distinguished Award by the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver.
