During the summer vacation, students from the Innovation Class at Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) traveled to the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom for a two-week overseas summer school program. The “Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences–University of Nottingham Summer School Program” builds upon the foundation of research collaboration in pharmaceutical sciences between the two institutions and serves as a key practical initiative by SPS to promote internationalized training of top-tier innovative talents. The program included a series of specialized lectures, visits to research laboratories, career talks from industry professionals, group project presentations, and cultural explorations of the city, allowing PKU students to gain an immersive experience of British pharmaceutical education and drug R&D models.

This series of specialized courses covered cutting-edge topics in pharmacy, including new drug molecule design, AI-driven drug discovery, clinical trials, pharmaceutical innovation and entrepreneurship, natural drug research, 3D-printing in pharmaceuticals, computational biology of tumors, sustainable healthcare, and academic career planning. 

In addition to theoretical learning, the program included several field trips to research institutions. The students visited the Biodiscovery Institute to observe the biomedical and biomolecular research platforms. At the Clinical Skills Center, they had the opportunity to experience various teaching and laboratory facilities.

The two weeks flew by in the blink of an eye. In the future, PKUSPS will continue to expand its channels of communication with the world’s leading universities and establish more platforms for overseas training and academic exchange. This will help pharmacy students build a foundation in China while looking towards the world, broaden their horizons through international exchange, hone their skills, and grow into pharmacy talents who possess both professional expertise and a global perspective.
