Delegation from PKU School of Basic Medical Sciences Visits the University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong

At the invitation of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the School of Biomedical Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), a delegation from the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Peking University—comprising Dean Kong Wei, Vice Deans Wu Congying and Luo Hao, and Assistant Dean Zhang Yong—visited the two universities in Hong Kong from May 27 to 29 and participated in the “15th Anniversary Research and Alumni Day 2026” event hosted by the School of Biomedical Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

HKU: Focusing on Cutting-Edge Interdisciplinary Research and Clinical Translation

At the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at HKU, Professor Kong Fan-yi, Vice Dean, Professor Chen Zhensheng, senior advisor, Professors Chen Fuhe and Huang Zelei, Assistant Deans, and Professor Ralf Jauch, Vice Dean of the School of Biomedical Sciences, held a meeting with the delegation. The two sides focused on discussing how to leverage the geographical and policy advantages of the Greater Bay Area to jointly apply for national and international collaborative grants, and support young faculty members in conducting interdisciplinary and cross-regional exploratory research. Additionally, both parties reached a consensus on establishing joint doctoral training programs and international summer schools, aiming to provide students from both universities with a broader international academic perspective.

CUHK: Discussing Talent Co-Cultivation and Innovation Ecosystem

At the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) at CUHK, Professor Chen Wenle, the Dean, Vice Deans Professor Zhao Hui, Professor Chen Huoyi, Professor Xu Guorong, and Dr. Liu Shanya, as well as Assistant Deans Professor Gao Bo and Professor Tian Xiaoyu, held a discussion with the delegation. The two sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on teaching, research, and international cooperation, followed by a tour of the School’s technical platforms for single-cell sequencing, high-resolution imaging, and electrophysiology.

At the SBS’s 15th anniversary celebration, Vice Dean Wu Congying delivered an academic presentation titled “Mechano-regulation of Cellular Organelles” and engaged in academic discussions with representatives from universities and research institutions in the United States, Norway, Australia, Singapore, and other parts of Chinese mainland.

PKU School of Basic Medical Sciences visited Hong Kong with the aim of establishing an internationally competitive innovation ecosystem in basic medical sciences through in-depth exchanges and collaboration with HKU and CUHK. The visit seeks to further promote the innovative development of basic medical education, strengthen joint training programs for high-level talent in basic medical sciences, build a biomedical research collaboration network aligned with international standards, explore joint applications for international research projects, and establish new models for joint laboratories and student exchanges. The goal is to translate specific cooperation intentions into tangible research outcomes and actively advance the internationalization of basic medical sciences at Peking University.
